The panel will explore how Family Offices approach Impact Investing to capitalize microfinance institutions and enterprises in developing countries. Included in the discussion will be focus on the partnerships, risk mitigation, and best practices that demonstrate how Family Offices have leveraged venture philanthropy to catalyze investment to achieve social and economic development. In addition, panelists will comment on the role of values-driven and inter-generational dynamics in Family Offices engaged with the Impact Investing sector.

Steven Godeke
Steven Godeke is an independent impact investment advisor who works with foundations, corporations and non-profit organizations to integrate their philanthropic and investment goals. Steven advises his clients on the creation and execution of impact investment strategies across asset classes and program areas through due diligence, structuring, negotiation, documentation and evaluation of impact investments.
His numerous clients include The Rockefeller Foundation, Rockefeller Philanthropic Advisors, The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, The Altman Foundation, Common Ground, Community Solutions, The Edna McConnell Clark Foundation, The World Economic Forum and corporate clients in the financial services and pharmaceutical industries.
Steven is co-author of Building A Healthy and Sustainable Social Impact Bond Market: The Investor Landscape (2012). Steven is an adjunct professor of finance at New York University’s Stern School of Business where he currently teaches Investing for Environmental and Social Impact and at the Center for Global Affairs where he teaches a course in Microfinance and Social Entrepreneurship.

Sam Bonsey
Sam Bonsey is Director of Operations, The ImPact, an organization which calls its members to powerful actions that deploy more capital focused on increasing the positive social, environmental and economic impact of their investments. Previously he was Co-Founder and Director of Project Development of 2Seeds Network, Inc. a network of community-based agricultural development projects in Tanzania designed to eradicate poverty by equipping individuals with the confidence, capacity, and opportunity to improve their lives. Sam serves on the Board of Keller Enterprises, LLC is a privately held company focused on natural resources, agriculture, and real estate investments. He has recently authored Impact Investing: Frameworks for Families: An introduction to impact investing for family offices, businesses, and foundations (January 2016). In 2015, Forbes recognized Sam for his work in Social Entrepreneurship in its annual profile of 30 Under 30.
